Nourish Me Homemade Lemon Cough Drops

Coughs be gone! Super simple and nourishing..

Prep Time5 mins

Kids coughing everywhere I look! Hello winter my old friend... Jelly drops are such a nice simple way to soothe. The gelatin is super nourishing for the gut and the lemon and honey have beautiful antibacterial properties.

I made these for my boys when one them picked up a cough from school. They are a regular in my house for winter. Super easy and soothing for the throat and filled with vitamin C.

I'm very fussy about the honey I use. So much store bought honey is poor quality and originates from China.  I absolutely love this honey which you can pick up from Woolies because it's from a from an organic farm in Tasmania AND packaged in glass! #plasticfreezone It tastes unlike other honey and is unique and delicious in flavour.

This was my grandmothers favourite honey and when she would come out and visit she would buy jars of this and take it back with her. The taste reminds me of my childhood and it is just beautiful!

Ingredients

125 ml squeezed fresh lemon juice
70g organic honey (I adore the real leatherwood organic Tasmanian honey which comes in glass and found in woolies - (pic and bottom of page)

VARIATIONS: I've also made these with fresh squeezed orange juice, honey, a knob of turmeric and a knob of ginger. They are a little spicy but my boys love them and they are a regular for us in winter! I think these would also work great with grapefruit too!

Here is my favourite honey!

  1. Tracey Jane Wood says:

I’m going to make your Homemade Lemon Cough Drops do I leave them on the kitchen bench or do you put them into the fridge to set please. I checked all the comments and I could see a answer anywhere.

  2. Samantha says:

Mine have the consistency of Turkish delights which wasn’t what I was expecting but on reading the comments this is how they should be? I’m thinking next time to add more gelatine and some drops of eucalyptus oil?

    • 123NourishMe says:

It might be because of the gelatine you were using? They more gelatine you add the firmer they will be.

  3. Virginia says:

Making these now as my daughter has a sore throat. Only mixed on stovetop for a few minutes, is that about right ? It appeared blended. 12 hours to set or less please?

      • Virginia Wilson says:

How do you know when gelatin has fully bloomed ? Just tried my first batch and love the lemon and honey flavour, but not sure they have set right- mine are a little too chewy perhaps?

        • 123NourishMe says:

They are meant to be chewy – like jellies. If you want them firmer you just increase your gelatin 🙂

  4. Sez says:

When you say ‘knob of ginger’ do u grate that into the mix, or let the whole thing simmer in there and then remove before pouring into the moulds??

  5. Danni McGaughey says:

I am so excited to about to attempt making these! However quick question, will they still be successful without a Thermomix? Thanks. Looks delish x
